After drawing near-universal fire and subsequently being suspended for branding quarterback Robert Griffin III a “cornball brother” for “not really” acting black, ESPN analyst Rob Parker has apologized:

Rob Parker apology

This was Parker’s first tweet since last Thursday, when he made the remark.

Some people commended him for fessing up to his mistake:

@robparkerespn well said Rob. I typically disagree with you on topics but you make it fun. We all make mistakes. Hope you stay on first take

I was never mad or took it personal, I just thought it was very careless, pointless & frivolous. Just hope @robparkerespn learned from it.

@robparkerespn we understand man. It’s a hard thing to articulate but it probably should have been avoided. No big deal though, very minor.

— PJ(@Peejiee) December 19, 2012

@robparkerespn I felt what you were trying to say just would have chose my words more carefully.. very touchy subject. Hope all goes well 4u

@robparkerespn rob that’s all you can do. I know you meant very well but it was just a very poor choice of words and that’s it. Youll be bck

@robparkerespn It’s all good

— Kevin Wolfe (@KLaWolfe) December 19, 2012

@robparkerespn Well said. It takes a lot of character to acknowledge a wrong and apolgize for it.

But if his goal is to win back angry viewers and convince them that he’s sincerely sorry, it looks like he’s facing an uphill battle:

@robparkerespn If I’m typical and uneducated, how could I accept this as a sincere apology?

— Brian Coulter (@PhilaBCoulter) December 19, 2012

@robparkerespn You’ve been sports writing for more than 20 years and you just figured that out…..really?

— Michael McIntosh (@mikemcintosh7) December 19, 2012

I dont need to hear an apology from @robparkerespn , just like I dont need to hear him call another black athlete a “cornball brother.” #NFL
